Laurie Miller Modern Art
My artist statement: If I was locked in a room with four bare walls and no other stimulation, I would be able to create a million images from the endless ideas swimming inside of me. The images would emerge in an expressionistic style, because that is the style which is buried in my soul. Expressionism depicts a persons inner soul and feelings rather than painting in a realistic representation of an image.
Laurie began her creative life at the age of three with tap dancing. She then proceeded to add playing the violin, piano, and bass to her creativity. While attending Penn State, studying theatre arts with a dance emphasis, Laurie took art classes which touched her soul. After graduating from Penn State, Laurie attended CCA (California College of Arts) and received a BFA degree in Design. She then worked in the graphic design business (Landor, designing symbol libraries - HP, etc.) in the Bay Area for several years while playing gigs at night.
For the past 20 years she has made a living as a recording artist/musician/bass player/singer-songwriter/music teacher. Laurie has five CDs published with a new CD - 'Listen People' to be released in the Fall of 2015.
Laurie’s award winning artwork has shown in both group and solo gallery exhibitions and events. Laurie has sold several pieces of her artwork, including several limited edition giclee prints of her ‘Plant People’ painting. Laurie is also a member of the Women in Arts.
Laurie enjoys creating and painting in several styles. Currently she is focusing on creating new series in the Abstract and Expressionism veins. Laurie's art in the Expressionistic styles are like children to her, because they are constantly evolving and changing.
" My paintings begin as bald naked babies, and then beautiful children emerge. I feel attached to them, and I love them dearly." Laurie Miller
I hope my art can connect and communicate something unique and deeply felt with the feelings and hearts of those who view it.
